Documents to Gather Before You Start Filing

A return goes much faster when everything is ready on day one. Use this checklist to avoid stopping halfway to hunt for papers.
Identity and account details
Keep your CNIC, NTN and your portal login ready. Make sure your registered mobile number and email address are current, because verification codes are sent to them.
Income records
Salaried people need their salary slips or the annual salary certificate from the employer. Business owners and freelancers need invoices, bank statements and records of expenses. If you earn rent, keep your tenancy agreement and rent receipts.
Tax already paid and assets owned
Collect withholding certificates and bank profit statements to show tax already deducted. For your wealth details, gather property documents, vehicle registration papers, bank balances, investment statements and any outstanding loans.
Having these in one folder, ideally scanned, will save hours when you reach the later sections of the return.
